Silent HillPlaystation7/10

You're in a town - Silent Hill. A resort town where some sort of wierd zombie-mutation is going down... No, it's not Resident Evil dummy; I already said, it's Silent Hill! While Silent Hill does share many similarities with Resident Evil, there are an equal number of difference, more than enough to make this another game, more than another ripoff.

I would like to point out a couple of things that I think were done very well in this game... The fogging in the snow was excellent (a great way to disguise the reduced poly count, much more believable). The game gives you tips (although not too many, and they become repetitive towards the end) each time you die, which can really help you out in the beginning. The concept of the Radio giving you 'radar' of the enemies is brilliant. The game loads and save VERY fast, which is VERY nice. Ok, now that that is out of the way, let's talk about why it isn't a 10 if it has all of these great things. First off, sometimes the controls (specifically when attacking enemies) is a bit cumbersome, and causes you either to miss, and get hit, or to hit the enemy, and then allow it to escape (at which point it is revitalized, and you start over again). There also are too many enemies around on the city streets, and they are all pretty much the same three enemies; I would have much preferred a sparser amount, and perhaps a tad stronger, since there are less, but just encountering the same enemy 5 times in a row, every 40 steps, isn't exactly fun. The voiceovers are pretty poor also, like most games, and the dialog is worse than the average bad movie, but most gamers are already pretty desensitized to that. Overall, the game is pretty fun, and it flows along ok (there are a couple of spots that is drags); I rented it, but you might now have enough time to complete it in the rental period.
