Mission: Impossible 23/10

Tom Cruise is back in this sequel to the popular Mission Impossible, based off of the TV series by the same name. Cruise plays 'Ethen Hunt', a super-spy who must attempt to stop an "international crisis of terrifying magnitude" from occurring. Oh, and he's got to save the girl too...

While I originally liked John Woo (the director) when he was making Hong Kong action films, this particular movie reminds me why I don't enjoy his movies anymore. The whole production seemed like Cruise saw 'The Matrix' and said, "Gee, if they can make Reeves look like a martial arts master, then they must be able to do it for me!". He is sadly mistaken - ironically not because I think he could believably pull it off, but because John Woo did such an atrocious job on this movie. Sure, he wasn't responsible for the script, but there are so many of the 'trademark' slow motion shots that it's laughable. The action scenes, while mildly entertaining are so predictable and lame it's amazing - Guards riding motorcycles around shooting guns? Give me a break! The only place that a motorcycle is an attack vehicle is in the movies. If you liked the original movie or the TV series, do yourself a favor and do not see this film; as a matter of fact, do your friends a favor and stop them from seeing it as well.
