PI9/10

PI is a science-fiction movie that takes place current time in New York City, following a mathematician attempting to find a pattern to the stock market. This is a very artistic, symbolic, independent black&white movie, so if you aren't into indie films, you have been warned... But if Hollywood doesn't represent the end-all be-all of the moviemaking industry, then you're in for one of the most original and bizarre movies I've ever seen.

This movie is GREAT! That's it for the review... Just kidding, although that's all you really need to know, that and the knowledge that your life will be less if you do not go see this film. I had been reading about this film in some of the trade magazines, so I was looking forward to seeing this much-acclaimed movie everyone was talking about. When it hit the theaters here, I got together with a couple friends of mine, and went. The movie was definitely not what I expected, being something new and completely original, which is by no means a small feat in the saturated sci-fi genre. It also did not suffer from one of my big pet peeves, trying to make something look high-tech, and fail miserably; instead he took an artistic (grunge) approach to technology which was reminiscent of the style used in 'Hackers' (although lotech as opposed to hitech). I would also recommend checking out the web site, which the best movie website I've ever been to, with clips, diaries, picture, you name it (linked below). All I can say is go see this film. Now. Don't wait.
