The Spanish Prisoner is a mystery film staring, among others, Steve Martin. Yes, I said mystery, and no, Steve Martin doesn't play a funny role, and yes, he does a great job! I really can't go into much detail about the content of the movie, since it is a mystery after all, and to do so would spoil the fun.
About the only real criticism I have of this movie, and it has to do with nothing other than my preconceived notions, is that when Steve Martin first shows up, I'm waiting for him to be funny; and he's not, and then I get over it and enjoy the movie. I must say that I enjoyed this film even more the next time I saw it, since I went in knowing not to expect funny, and saw alot more in his performance than I had before. This is not to slight Steve Martins performance in this movie in any way; I though he did a phenomenal job, but it just take a minute to get used to, and to truly appreciate his skill. The movie itself reminds me of the type of murder mysteries that were common in the 50/60's, with a 90's spin, and alot of twists and turns. The film starts off a little slow, but builds at a steady pace until you're completely caught up in the chaos at the end. If you're into mysteries, or if you're just into quality thought provoking movies, this one's a winner. Token link going out to something having to do with this
