Master Zap is one of those highly skilled individuals; he writes music, he writes software, and he's graphically creative. His website is very cool, and contains alot of good info and music/software to check out, so I have to recommend everyone goes and checks it out. His first CD, entitled "The Curvature of Space", harkens back to a couple years ago, when people actually cared whether or not the track had some depth, instead of finding one cool breakbeat, one cool vocal sample, and deciding to make a song. The songs are loaded with 303'ish sounds, alot of envelope sweeps, hip samples, and straight-ahead beats. For me, the CD classifies as one of the few that I can actually pop in, and not have to bother myself with skipping tracks I don't like, since there really aren't any. All of the songs definitely have a commercial feel, as I'm sure was his intent just by looking at the packaging for the CD. The packaging is literally better than most CD's that you'll buy in the stores, with all kinds of quirky info; such as he mixed a songs to the communications of the space shuttle Atlantis - LIVE! Pretty wild idea, and the song is cool to boot. The disk also contains a bunch of computer data, some real audio songs, etc; but to tell you the truth, I haven't had a chance to check this out yet? Why? Because I haven't taken it out of my CD player. So to recap; if you like older (circa 2 or 3 years ago) techno, and you dig the 303 and 909 sounds, then you shouldn't be without this.
