RedStorm is one of the most refreshing groups I've heard in a while! His music is like a hybrid of the forefathers of techno, like Kraftwerk, pop idols of the 80's, like Duran Duran, and more recent Erasure or Midi Rain. The style of the tracks vary quite a bit, from tracks that could only be described as 4/4 disco, complete with the octave bassline riff, to totally tripped out tracks using bizarre vocal tricks I haven't even ever heard before. One song in particular, entitled 'Space', totally rips - a solid 9.5 on my scale! A straight ahead 4/4 beat, but with really wild pitch bent vocals, and nice light piano and string sounds. While all of the songs tend to have a minimalistic feel, it's more by the choices of sounds and EQ'ing, than by the more common lack of any real content; one of the few times I have felt that a minimalistic approach really worked. I also really get a kick out of the 'dance' feel that all of the tracks RedStorm has done have - they are definitely written with clubs in mind, and the vocals usually reflect this as well. Overall the songs all harken back to a time when people actually took time and put some effort and emotion into their songs, something which is really lacking in most bands today. One other point I would like to make, since it's the exact opposite of most of my music, is that his songs tend to have a positive feel to them, which is also a refreshing change, and reminiscent of 80's electronic music. Bottom line, if you fondly remember the bands that started this electronic music revolution, and wondered what they would sound like, if they had continued to evolve, you won't be disappointed with RedStorm!
